Bereavement & Loss

Most people experience grief when they lose something or someone important to them. If these feelings are affecting your life, there are things you can try that may help.

Grief affects us all in different ways. It’s important to remember there is no ‘normal’ way to grieve. The many different aspects of grief can come as a shock. One of the most common questions bereaved people ask themselves is ‘am I normal?’.

Some of the most common symptoms of bereavement include: shock and numbness, overwhelming sadness, tiredness or exhaustion, anger – towards the person you’ve lost or the reason for your loss. For example, you may feel guilt about something you said or did not say, or for not being able to stop your loved one dying.

Grief be accompanied by loneliness and also anxiety, when we feel like we’ve lost our sense of safety and control as we naturally worry that we might lose someone else in the future.

These feelings may not be there all the time and powerful feelings may appear unexpectedly.
