Anxiety

Anxiety is a feeling of stress, panic or fear that can affect your everyday life physically and psychologically.

Everyone has feelings of anxiety at some point in their life. For example, you may feel worried and anxious about sitting an exam, or having a medical test or job interview.

During times like these, feeling anxious can be perfectly normal.

However, some people find it hard to control their worries. Their feelings of anxiety are more constant and can often affect their daily lives.

Counselling can support you to explore what you’re going through and why you feel as you do, and to help you find ways to overcome your anxiety that work for you.

During sessions we initially explore what’s going on for you. We discuss what is causing your fears, including any underlying issues – triggers for your feelings of anxiety. We can also explore the unhelpful thinking patterns that you might be having.

Our feelings are held in our bodies. Counselling, including working with your body, can help slow down the physical response that causes anxiety. I therefore teach clients a range of breathing and relaxation techniques to manage overwhelming feelings.
